The Eating Disorders Foundation of NSW Inc was established in
1991 by Amanda
Jordan a social worker who has herself recovered from an eating
disorder.
The work of EDF is based on the energy, efforts and enthusiasm
of volunteers
from all walks of life. This is supplemented by the professional
staff,
Greta Kretchmer and Amanda.
EDF is now a State-wide service, with
up to 50 phone enquiries a day via
the telephone information line a website and run groups for families
and
carers as well as recovery groups for people hoping to overcome
their
illness. While most of there work is to support sufferers of
eating
disorders and their families, they believe the work is incomplete
unless we
address some of the factors in society that seduce people into
destructive
forms of dieting and contribute to their despair.
Consequently, we run an annual Youth Forum, which attracts up
to 2000
secondary school students.
EDF receives no government funding whatsoever. All there work
has been paid
for by membership fees and donations from our committed volunteers
and
